GLADYS RAMM SCRIPTURE MEMORY COMPETITION

“The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver.” (Psalm 119:72)

After the start of East West Church in April 1991, Pastor Gnaniah and Ranjini were desperately praying to develop a ministry among the children of the church. In January 1992, one day while visiting a Christian Book Store in Garden Grove, CA,  they spotted an advertisement put up in the store by the “Child Evangelism Fellowship” (CEF),  offering to train freely those interested in Children’s ministry.   Ranjini began to pray for the guidance of the Lord and sure enough God convicted her to take on the ministry.  When she contacted the CEF chapter in Santa Ana, CA, they casually informed about a lady by name Gladys Ramm, from Anaheim, who just then started attending the same, every Thursday morning.  Ranjini and Gladys went together for teacher training for several years.  Thus God in His sovereign way connected us with Gladys and soon she joined Ranjini in the children ministry at EWCC.

Since the syllabus of CEF is well structured to impart systematic Biblical teaching, Gladys offered to teach Memory Verse while Ranjini did songs and Bible lessons.  Later on Neena Paltanwala joined the team and served the children gladly for some years.  Soon Albert (Al) Ramm, the husband of Gladys became very active in the church, taking Adult Bible Studies, filling in the pulpit for Pastor and serving in church boards. God used them mightily and they were also great instruments in being as mentors for so many of us in the church, until He suddenly called Gladys to His Home, on Aug 19, 2003, just 16 days after her 87 th  birthday.  Until her death she was so vibrant and having zeal for the Lord in serving the children and the church and an “encourager” to the Gnaniahs in the ministry.  Three years later after her death, Al Ramm followed his wife Gladys to the Heavenly abode.

We remember Gladys very fondly for her love for the Lord and the church and her cherished ministry with the children of our church, especially in teaching memory verses.  She baked cookies every single Sunday for the Sunday school children until her death.  A year later after her Home calling in 2004, East West Church established the Memory Verse Competition to be held each year in her memory and for the Glory of God.  Scripture portions to be memorized are announced in the beginning of each summer and the competition is being held during the final days of summer. The competition has continued successfully ever since for all age groups from age 3 to adults.  The winners are awarded with trophies.  Let us be reminded of the following verses from the Bible:

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
